The county seat of Breathitt County, Jackson, Kentucky is named for the one and only Andrew Jackson. The town is a small quiet place where neighbors still know neighbors and friendliness is the way of life.

What We Do

The Breathitt County Conservation District works to help conserve the natural resources of Breathitt County. The BCCD is governed by a seven member board of supervisors. Click on About Us to find out more about the people who lead conservation efforts in Breathitt County.

South Fork Elk View Station 

Accessible by blacktopped road, the Breathitt County elk viewing facility allows visitors to view the largest elk herd in Kentucky. Surrounded by wetlands, ponds, and a variety of plant and animal life, the facility provides a beautiful panoramic view of the Kentucky montains. From Jackson, travel south three miles on KY 15; turn left on HWY 1098; travel 16 miles and turn right on a newly paved road surrounding the hillside point identified as "Southfork Elk View".
