Charles E. Hardin, Chairman and the Board of Supervisors for the Breathitt County Conservation District are pleased to announce this year’s winners in the 2007 Art and Writing Contest. There were 253 essays and 679 posters entered in the contest. Students in grades 1-12 participated in the contest. The Conservation District is a proud sponsor of the Courier-Journal conservation writing and Jim Claypool art contests. The annual contests offer every student in the county an opportunity to participate while learning more about the management of natural resources of soil, water, trees and wildlife. This year’s theme, Kentucky’s Wildlife, took a look at all forms of wildlife across the state and pointed out the ways in which our daily activities can affect their lives. The contest is also sponsored annually by the Kentucky Department of Education, the Kentucky Department of Conservation Districts, the Louisville Courier Journal, and the Kentucky Farm Bureau Federation. The contest is sponsored locally by the Breathitt County Conservation District and the Breathitt County Board of Education.
